"Sadly singer and artiste Ganesh Jogi from Gujarat passed away on the 2nd of November. May his soul rest in peace. Condolences to his family from the entire Beat of India team".

Ganesh Jogi and his wife Teju Behan are a very talented couple who live on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. Although they were both born in Rajasthan in a village close to Mt. Abu, their families moved to Gujarat when they were young and now Gujarati is as much their mother tongue as the Marwari spoken in their native village. This has however given them a chance to expand their repertoire to include songs of both languages.
Their families practiced music as a tradition and a means of living but neither of them took it up till much later in life. Ganesh Jogi worked as a labourer to earn a living when he came in contact with famous painter Haku Shah who wanted to encourage his talent and so gave him a monthly stipend to come and paint at his house everyday. Slowly Ganesh honed his skills as a painter and a singer and Haku Shah helped him get a job in a Hotel to perform. Thereafer there was no looking back for Ganesh. Slowly his wife joined him, they started getting invitations to perform at programs all over the country. His wife Teju Behan sang for the film 'Mirch Masala' in the 80s. They are a couple who travel to all parts of the country to exhibit their paintings and their musical expression today.
