Maitrayee is a performing vocalist. She performs for weddings, birthdays, religious occasions and other celebrations. She holds a degree of Sangeet Vishaarad from Bruhad Gujarat Sangeet Samiti, Gujarat, winning a gold medal. She got her formal education in North Indian Classical Music by Shri Ishwarbhai Parekh based in Anand, Gujarat.
After immigrating to the United States, Maitrayee started to miss the country of her origin, India. This inspired her and soon the flashes of Indian memories shaped into wonderful songs about the country and its culture.
Currently, she is an active member of the group Sangeetonline.org. She also writes poetry for the websites Boloji.com and SAWF.org.
Maitrayee recorded this CD, Navi Vahurani, in the year 2004. It is a compilation of her original written and composed Gujarati Wedding songs. Navi Vahurani means new bride.
