The
word 'Jantsar' comes from 'Janta' which is a 'Chhakki'
or a flour grinding stone. In villages women spend long
hours grinding flour for each day's meal. It is tough
and tedious labour.
Jantsar songs are sung while the women are at the 'Chhakki'.
These songs are usually quite long and they describe some
of their deepest sorrows or desires.
